The Tutor Ultra is an ultralight backpack made with Ultra100X fabric. It is the premium version of the standard Tutor. The weight remains nearly the same, but it is significantly more durable. It has a capacity of around 35 L (≈2.1 cu ft) and weighs under 700 g (≈1.5 lbs). The backpack features a breathable back panel and two carbon fiber frames, making it perfect for carrying loads under 12 kg (≈26 lbs) on fast and light adventures.
DESCRIPTION
The Tutor is an ultralight, minimalist backpack first released in 2017. Although we weren’t entirely satisfied with the original design, we discontinued it in 2019 and have fully redesigned and re-released it in 2025.
The new Tutor features a roll-top closure, carbon fiber frame, and increased capacity. Redesigned shoulder straps and hip belt improve ergonomics, while the backpack maintains a minimalist appearance and core functionality, making it ideal for ultralight, fast-paced hiking and adventure.
It is constructed from Ultra100x.

Because the pack uses a roll-top closure with a roll height of 25cm/9.84in, the total height can be extended to approximately 75cm/29.53in when fully unrolled.
The main compartment of the backpack has a minimum capacity of 25L, which increases to 30L when the roll-top is extended.

The ultralight carbon fiber stays and perforated EVA panel provide structural support, while the 3D breathable nylon material enhances ventilation and reduces heat buildup.
The ergonomically designed shoulder straps and hipbelt feature a 1 cm thickness, and the hipbelt is equipped with a four-way adjustment buckle that allows it to angle and conform to the human body, which typically tapers in a truncated-cone shape.
The pack features four independent side compression straps, allowing easier stabilization of gear or water bottles of varying lengths. The stretch-fabric side pockets provide flexible capacity and can accommodate a wider range of items.
The version shown in the picture is still the grid UHMWPE version.
We put the newly redesigned Tutor backpack through rigorous testing on demanding expeditions—and it has exceeded our expectations. Built for advanced ultralight hikers carrying up to 10 days of food, the Tutor strikes an exceptional balance between comfort, durability, and simplicity.
On both the Zhagana Trail (moderate difficulty, 8 kg load) and the Giyrong Mountain expedition (high difficulty, 12 kg load), the Tutor delivered a stable and comfortable carry throughout long days of travel. At camp, its compact profile takes up minimal space inside the tent, making it an excellent companion for fast-and-light missions.
For routes under 200 km, the GRID UHMWPE Nylon fabric offers more than enough durability. For long-distance trail, we recommend upgrading to the upcoming ULTRA100X option for enhanced long-distance performance.
The pack features a stretch-nylon front pocket, two side bottle pockets, and a hipbelt pocket sized to fit a 6-inch phone or a full day’s worth of trail snacks. It also can carry a single ice axe. The shoulder straps include gear loops that allow you to hang water bottles or attach most bottle sleeves with ease.
Please note that the pack is not fully waterproof, so we recommend using a waterproof liner for proper protection.
