Lanshan 2 Pro
THE 5 BEST ULTRALIGHT TENTS OF 2024

“Anyone can produce an inexpensive tent, but can it also be of good quality and deliver value — can it be a product that we would confidently recommend to a friend? We’re happy and a little relieved to say, yes, we would recommend the Lanshan. It punches well above its class when it comes to high-quality features we’ve grown accustomed to having at the end of a long hard hike.”

“We stayed dry in a high-mountain thunderstorm and the tent remained firmly rooted as the wind picked up to 15 miles per hour,” reported one tester from the Art Loab Trail in near Asheville, North Carolina.

SilNylon or SilPoly
The Lanshan 2 Pro Gen2 is available in two fabric options: SilNylon and SilPoly. The former offers exceptional strength, while the latter has a much lower water absorption rate. In tear resistance, these materials provide 45 N (SilNylon) and 18 N (SilPoly), respectively—SilPoly is sufficient for general camping conditions, while SilNylon is better suited for extreme weather.
Because SilPoly’s water absorption rate is only 0.5%—one-tenth that of SilNylon—and it does not sag when wet, many people prefer this material. Please choose the fabric that best fits your actual needs.
“T“ zipper door
The doors of the Lanshan 2 Pro, including the inner mesh doors, can be fully opened. We achieved this feature using three YKK #3 zippers, adding almost no extra weight. You can enter the tent from any direction, making it incredibly simple when packing and organizing your hiking gear.
In the Lanshan Gen2 fly, we replaced the traditional zipper-and-storm-flap combination with a YKK waterproof zipper, making the tent lighter while enhancing its waterproof performance.
Quality
Lanshan Pro Gen2 features waterproof zippers and replaces traditional plastic hooks with titanium alloy hooks, enhancing both water resistance and durability. All key stress points are double-stitched to prevent damage, while non-stress areas use single stitching reinforced with webbing, reducing sealing difficulty and minimizing the risk of leaks. This design ensures a reliable and long-lasting shelter for any outdoor adventure.
Condensation Guard
In the Lanshan Gen2, we have added a highly practical feature. We found that the head and foot areas of a sleeping bag are particularly susceptible to condensation, so we placed a solid nylon condensation guard at both ends of the tent. This helps reduce the impact of condensation on your sleeping bag to some extent.
If you think this feature is unnecessary, you can cut off these two pieces of fabric, which will reduce the weight by about 20 grams.
Double Side Silicone Fabric
Unlike most tents where one side of SilNylon/SilPoly is coated with a PU/PE layer, the SilNylon/SilPoly(to be released later) used in the Lanshan Pro series is silicone-treated on both sides. As a result, it cannot be laminated with other coatings, nor can factory-applied waterproof tape be used on the seams. This approach maximizes the fabric’s tear resistance, ensuring the tent can withstand even severe storms.
This type of fabric is challenging to work with, which is why large factories typically avoid orders involving it, and only niche brands use it.
Due to the slippery nature of this fabric and its tendency to attract dust, we will not use this material for tent floors.

WHY GO SILNYLON/SILPOLY?
Silnylon cannot be factory-taped like PU Nylon due to its physical properties, requiring you to seal it outdoors with silicone. So why would we use this fabric, which seems to have obvious flaws, in the more advanced Lanshan Pro?
The answer is we need better fabric aging time and tear strength. We believe that professional expeditions will face harsh environments such as high winds, high altitude UV rays and more, which places higher demands on the fabric’s durability and strength.
Since we haven’t had to repair aging SilNylon tents, the aging performance of SilNylon is based on feedback from our customers and users on backpackinglight.com.
The tear resistance data comes from our experiments on one-way tearing of single-ply fabrics with incisions.
SilNylon won’t tear apart like paper when subjected to forces exceeding its tear strength. Instead, its slippery fibers will align and create a strong anti-tear force. Even if the tent is damaged at this point, it won’t collapse and can continue to provide protection for the user.
The waterproofing data is derived from our tests using the WX Air PowerPressure device, conducted at 25 degrees Celsius. The video of this experiment is available on our YouTube channel.
The waterproof level required to effectively prevent raindrops from penetrating is 1000-2000mm, which is why we strive to achieve this value with SilNylon. The water resistance pressure of PU Nylon far exceeds actual usage requirements because our research found that only by increasing the thickness of the PU layer to this level can a PU tent achieve a lifespan of 5 years.
